Showdown at the Shipyard Recap

Hello Friends of the Trojan Navy,

USC Men’s Crew and Alumni would like to extend a big thank you to all of the friends and family of the Trojan Navy. Your support made the first ever Showdown at the Shipyard a great success.

A nice turnout of sixty attendees were treated to a great morning of bagels and coffee followed by some intense racing. The alumni prevailed while competing in three 1000 meter pieces in the first showdown between the alumni and students. All of the matches were highly contested and hard fought. It truly was a successful day of racing.
After the race, guests enjoyed some great BBQ cooked by current oarsman Dan Slutsky, professionally trained at a culinary institute in New York,  and live jazz from The Urban Renewal Project, with Alumni Scott Spongberg on the drums, as we all got to know each other.
Two boat christenings took place as well to honor last year’s coaches, John Taylor and Katie Scott, for their hard work in keeping the team together as we went through a tough transition last year.  The two stepped up and really kept the team alive when all seemed to be lost and wrong.  We can never thank or honor them enough for their selfless work and dedication last year.

The team looks forward to meeting each and every one of you at future events.  Until then, Fight On!
