San Diego Crew Classic

The USC Men’s Crew are back from a sun soaked San Diego Crew Classic. It was a beautiful weekend of racing in San Diego, with great performances, thrilling finishes, and experience gained.

The Crew comes away from the weekend missing the results they had hoped for. The Varsity rowed in the wake of a late week ankle fracture to Ryan Hasvold, expected seven man. The Varsity eight battled the elements of an outside lane and the loss of a key member to the squad to finish 6th in the Cal Cup heat and were relegated to the third level final.

The Novice had a much improved performance at the Crew Classic. Holding onto third position coming into the last five hundred meters, they slipped to fifth in their heat as they were overtaken by some more experienced crew in the finale, ending their racing weekend.

But the crew is resolved to continue its development, having practice Sunday morning before racing started for the day and getting ready for a week of seat racing. Now, all eyes are on the rendezvous with UCLA April 25th, at Ballona Creek.

Thank you to all the great parents and supporters with whom we spent the beautiful weekend of racing. A special thank you goes out to Ann Hill for hosting the oarsmen at the Friday night pasta dinner and to the Johnson’s for their wonderful hospitality as their hosted the crew for the evening on Saturday night.

Now, off to hunt the Bruins!

Fight On!
