PAC-10 Championship Wrapup

Greetings Again USC Men’s Crew Supporters,
The USC Men’s Crew wrapped up their racing season this past weekend at the PAC-10 Championships, on Lake Natoma in Rancho Cordova (Sacramento), CA.

It was a weekend and race day marked by incredible heat, the hottest of the year, topping out at 105F, and the most intense racing the PAC-10 Men’s teams have seen in years.

The USC Men’s Crew Varsity 8 finished off their season of racing with their best race. The boat raced with more rhythm, length, and presence than it had all year. Moving up one place from last year’s PAC-10 performance, the Varsity finished sixth out of seven, and closed the gap to UCLA by 6 seconds. A proud final performance. The race was rowed by Cox – Drew Moxon; Stroke – Collin Evans; 7 – Ryan Hasvold; 6 – Kellen Proctor; 5 – Taylor Coats; 4 – Trent Oliver; 3 – Chris Mora; 2 – Russ Neldam; Bow – Kevin Stanek. The Varsity 8 Race Results:
1 – CALIFORNIA – 5.41.9
2 – STANFORD – 5.42.2
3 – WASHINGTON – 5.44.1
4 – OREGON ST. – 6.04.6
5 – UCLA – 6.12.0
6 – USC – 6.17.0
7 – WASHINGTON ST. – 6.20.5

The Novice Crew finished off their season resolved to come back for a better Varsity campaign. The crew came off the water extremely unhappy with their final performance. After catching a partial crab on the third stroke of the race, the crew never found their rhythm. However, all comments from the athletes centered around a bitter resolve to attack their summer training and come back with a burning desire to show their true capabilities. The Novice race was rowed by Cox – Myles Guntenkunst; Stroke – Parin Patel; 7 – Sean Safahi; 6 – Austin Delana; 5 – Jeff Nelson; 4 – Chris Fisher; 3 – Daniel DeLaTorre; 2 – Javier Ramirez; Bow – Pedro Ramirez. The Novice 8 Race Results:
1 – WASHINGTON – 5.42.6
2 – CALIFORNIA – 5.51.4
3 – STANFORD – 6.02.2
4 – WASHINGTON ST. – 6.03.9
5 – OREGON ST. – 6.07.4
6 – UCLA – 6.29.7
7 – USC – 6.50.7
8 – OREGON – 6.52.5

Thank you all USC Men’s Crew supporters. You provided the young men and women of the Men’s Crew a wonderful experience and the student athletes are truly grateful. We’re all looking forward to a great year in 2009-2010. Again, thank you.
