Mission Bay, San Diego, CA – April 6, 2008 –
The Trojan Navy won the Men’s Open at the San Diego Crew Classic
in stunning fashion on Sunday.
It was the first win for USC in the event and a moment appreciated by
Trojan fans mobbing the shores of Mission Bay that was made all the
more special by the presence of the Trojan Marching Band.
USC qualified for the six boat final of the Men’s Open with a
dominating win its heat on Saturday where the next crew was left trailing
40 seconds behind.
In the grand final USC scorched its opponents off the starting line
and opened up a one-and-a-half boat length lead over the University
of California Berkeley by the first 500m mark of the 2000m race. By
the finish post the lead was extended to four boat-lengths.
In other racing action the JV Crew raced in the California Cup event
finishing third in the petite final on Saturday. The third varsity crew,
comprised of several novice oarsmen, finished last in its heat and did
not qualify for Sunday’s finals.
Next up for the Trojan Navy is the George Gordon Cup this Saturday in
the Port of Los Angeles. .
